One of the keys to quality Roses arriving in mint condition is post-harvest procedures. From transporting on banana rails in the field, through careful grading and packaging to airfreighting, with cold chains being maintained throughout transportation. The final consumers of these premium quality roses are all over Europe, initially channeled through the auctions in the Netherlands then distributed through the networks of wholesalers and retailers.
These varieties are all sourced from W. Kordes ‘Söhne in Germany. W. Kordes ‘Söhne is continually creating new varieties, which are tested at Kreative. After years of selection and trialing, Kreative introduces new varieties into the market. Imperative is an excellent presentation, at least 14-days-vaselife and a good production. Initially up to 10,000 plants will be grown of any new variety, with the cooperation of certain selected wholesalers and expert marketers to see the market response.
Once new varieties are established they become part of The Kordes showcase. With over 100 varieties having been introduced in the East African market alone, only the more recent varieties are available on show. These can be viewed at Kreative Roses by prior appointment as well as the whole farm, to see the Kordes varieties in production.
